Weekly Wrap-up: That’s a Bingo!

Ahoy once more for the week. This is Anime Parlay and we’re almost a month into this blog project. I had a chance to reflect last night with my wife about getting back into writing, rediscovering thing about myself I had forgot, and feeling more confident in the world around me. I honestly feel myself beginning to feel more like myself for the first time in years. If I feel this good after one month, just imagine how good I could feel next month? That’s the goal! Right now I have a great schedule (for the most part). 5 posts a week also seems like the most viable number for me at the moment. Until something prohibits me from hitting that number, expect some content here on Anime Parlay. I need my writing fix!

This has been a monumental week here on Anime Parlay. Nothing took me away from writing, for the most part. May 3rd is the birthday of my good friend. We’ll call him “The Wizard” to keep the Time Lord naming motif going here. The Wizard taught The Captain here how to be a better Magic: The Gathering player and we’ve been slinging spells for a little over 5 years. While I would never say it to his face, I very much value his input, penchant for strategy games, and his ability to adapt to an ever changing world. The only reason I wouldn’t tell him is because we’re frenimies/rivals. Not sure what the accurate term is but you probably understand. Friends!

Other than that, this weekend the Wife and I will be dog-sitting for their parents. They have a gigantic dog who is overly-friendly and still a puppy.  Also, possible Skyline Chili with The Wizard. I can’t wait! To tide you over until next week, here’s what got posted this week.

Here’s what you missed this week:

The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Review #1 & 2 – In the Eternal Night/The Battle of Astarte – This week I decided to get another show into the rotation of the review cycle. I also wanted to switch up the way I wrote posts for individual episodes. Galactic Heroes gave me an opportunity to do both and I am excited to be covering a current show. I’m topical!

Check It Out: BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! – Check It Out is my new post type where I’ll give you some opinions (mostly possitive) about anime related things I have found in the world. This time around, I had to show some love for the girls of the BanG Dream! franchise. Even the featured image of this post is from that game. Shout-out to Lisa Imai for today’s feature image. She’s girly and she rocks which is a perfect segue for the next post…

Living Up to the Myth of Masculinity – I took the dive this week to talk about the archaic nature of toxic masculinity and how I have dealt with it my whole life as a more feminine dude. This was a very personal post but it was received very well and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. I am encouraged to write more posts that try to cross anime and reality for positive results. Otakumancing if you will. If you’re a day-walker like me, you can make it work.

Trigun Review #4 – Love and Peace – Fresh! The episode 4 review of Trigun is also on the loose. This time around there was a lot to be say about the gray areas in the struggles to sort through morality. Our main characters were also there but did much more listening. Good for them but why have them there? We may never know.

Coming Soon to Anime Parlay!

  • Galactic Heroes + Trigun Reviews – We need to keep that party going to get more anime content to the blog or at least that’s what I tell myself. I am enjoying both series but my only concern is Galactic Heroes. I am watching the Funimation Simuldub for so many reasons. Not the obvious Dub versus Sub reasons which are ridiculous (maybe a future post will be to elaborate on that). However, they’re only up to episode 2 but we’ll see if they catch up. If not, I will seek the subbed version to keep rocking. I did it with Gundam Seed in high school. You have no idea how high I can fly!
  • Check It Out: The Alchemist Code – You know I have another app un-review in the works. This time a game that has a wonderfully detailed tactical battle system like that of PS1/PS2 era. On top of that, the game has great original art and is fairly easy to pick up. More to come on that.
  • Personal Post? – It was a real pleasure to write about something in my past that really wasn’t pleasant but also how I was able to overcome. It was re-affirming and I don’t know why I don’t have more faith in myself. There are a lot of things that don’t make sense in the meat space, like toxic masculinity, and I like to rant about it with as much insight as I can bring to the table. Perhaps I can come up with something to follow up but be patient. I want to make sure I produce a quality post with plenty of room for conversation. Food for thought; some topics I am debating (broadly) are sexuality, careers, and politics (You know I’ll go there! I’m not sponsored except by myself). I want to see how anime has blended into my life and how its shapes how I view the world in addition to my experiences so boom! Stay tuned for that.

AMV of the Week!

Like I mentioned before, I personally had a great week and it’s motivating to keep going. Maybe you’ve felt that eager feeling to push on. Maybe you just want to be able to put your “stamp of approval” on each and every day. I thrive on that feeling of jumping into the unexpected. I also want to keep growing as person with the intensity of 1000 suns. I feel like I am only rediscovering passion but it’s a good feeling. Help me help you chase it with this week’s AMV of the Week: A Sporting Chance by Youtuber Tigrin Studios. I hope it encourages you to keep on keeping on. You’ve got this. I’ve got this. Let’s make it so! Thanks for reading and I will see you next week. Aloha!
